Luol Deng is a warrior for the Chicago Bulls

26-year old small forward Luol Deng hurt his wrist early this year.  He was told that he needed surgery, but if he had it, his season would be over.  So, Deng decided to put off surgery and play with pain.  It’s hard to tell that he is hurting.  In his first four games of April (all starts), Deng is averaging 40.5 minutes, 17.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game.  He has now played in 48 games (all starts) overall this year and he is averaging 39.3 minutes, 15.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game.  Deng is a big reason why the Bulls have the best record in the Eastern Conference right now.

The Bulls played well on D as they held the Knicks to 38.2% from the floor and they outrebounded the Knicks 59-47, but they were outscored 9-8 in O.T. yesterday and it did them in.  Derrick Rose only shot 8 of 26 from the floor, but he still led the way for the Bulls with 29 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot.  Carlos Boozer was tough around the basket as he finished up with 13 points, 16 rebounds and 2 assists.  Luol Deng only shot 4 of 16 from the floor as he finished up with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot.  Taj Gibson (11 points) and Joakim Noah (10 points) also pitched in for the Bulls.  The Bulls are now 43-14 on the year.

The Chicago Bulls sign Mike James for the rest of the season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by admin on Friday 6 April 2012 at 11:59 am

The Bulls have signed 36-year old point guard Mike James for the rest of the 2011-12 season.  James has played in 8 games (0 starts) for the Bulls so far this year and he is averaging 11.4 minutes, 5.4 points, 1.0 rebound and 3.1 assists per game.  With Derrick Rose still gimpy, it makes perfect sense for the Bulls to lock up James for the rest of the year.

The Bulls ran into a buzzsaw in Oklahoma City yesterday as they were down 80-51 after the first three quarters.  John Lucas led the way for the Bulls last night with 19 points, 1 rebound, 4 assists and 1 steal.  Kyle Korver also had a solid game with 14 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal last night.  Taj Gibson pitched in with 10 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal in this game.  The Bulls are now 42-12 on the year.

The Chicago Bulls are getting decent work out of their backup point guards in 2011-12

With Derrick Rose a little gimpy right now, C.J. Watson and John Lucas have  stepped up.  27-year old C.J. Watson has played in 36 games (17 starts) for the Bulls so far this year and he is averaging 23.7 minutes, 10.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.  He is only shooting 38.4% from the floor this year, but he has nailed 43% of his shots from three point range so far this year.  29-year old John Lucas has played in 41 games (2 starts) for the Bulls so far this year and he is averaging 13.5 minutes, 6.7 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.  The Bulls have been o.k. without Derrick Rose and I would have thought they would have slipped some.  That being said, the Bulls are smart to rest Rose until he’s fully ready to return to action.
