Carlos Boozer breaks his hand and he will miss the first month of the year for the Chicago Bulls

Blogged under Big Bulls News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by alleyoop on Tuesday 5 October 2010 at 11:24 am

Starting power forward Carlos Boozer said that he tripped over some luggage trying to answer his doorbell and he broke his hand because he landed wrong. Boozer will be out of action for the next 8 weeks meaning that he will miss the first month of the regular season. This is a huge blow for the Bulls as they were depending on Boozer to team up inside with Joakim Noah so the Bulls could own the glass. Second year man Taj Gibson will replace Boozer while he is out of action.

The Chicago Bulls sign Brian Scalabrine

Blogged under Big Bulls News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Wednesday 22 September 2010 at 8:24 am

The Bulls have signed 32-year old forward Brian Scalabrine to a non-guaranteed contract. Scalabrine played in 52 games (3 starts) for the Celtics last year and he averaged 9.1 minutes, 1.5 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. He has now played in 474 games (61 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 13.8 minutes, 3.3 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. Scalabrine has only shot 38.7% from the field in his NBA career which is awful for a big man. Don’t look for him to get much playing time in 2010-11 if he makes the team.

Bogans played in 79 games (49 starts) last season for the Spurs and he averaged 19.7 minutes, 4.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. He has now played in 504 games (226 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 22.8 minutes, 7.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. This was a solid signing for the Bulls as Bogans will help solidify the bench even more.

Kurt Thomas signs up with the Chicago Bulls

Blogged under Big Bulls News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Friday 23 July 2010 at 1:16 am

The Bulls have signed 37-year old PF/C Kurt Thomas to a undisclosed contract. Thomas played in 70 games (9 starts) for the Bucks last season and he averaged 15.0 minutes, 3.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. He has now played in 966 games (593 starts) in his 15-year NBA career and he has averaged 25.7 minutes, 8.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. Thomas will provide muscle and defense off the bench for the Bulls this year. This is another good signing for the Bulls.

The Chicago Bulls acquire C.J. Watson from the Warriors

Blogged under Big Bulls News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Tuesday 20 July 2010 at 7:47 am

The Bulls have acquired 26-year old point guard C.J. Watson in a sign and trade deal with the Warriors. The Warriors signed Watson to a 3-year, $10.2 million dollar deal and then they sent him to the Bulls for a future second round pick. Watson played in 65 games (15 starts) for the Warriors last season and he averaged 27.5 minutes, 10.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Watson has now played in 174 games (33 starts) in his three years in the NBA in which he has averaged 23.2 minutes, 8.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game. This was a outstanding move as Watson will back up Derrick Rose at the point and Ronnie Brewer at shooting guard. Whenever you can get a solid player for a second round pick you have to make that deal and that’s exactly what the Bulls have done.

The Chicago Bulls sign Ronnie Brewer

Blogged under Big Bulls News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Friday 16 July 2010 at 7:17 pm

The Bulls have signed 25-year old SG Ronnie Brewer to a 3-year, $12.5 million dollar deal. Brewer played in 58 games (53 starts) for the Jazz & Grizzlies last season and he averaged 30.0 minutes, 8.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He has now played in 271 games (223 starts) in his four years in the NBA and he has averaged 26.2 minutes, 10.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Brewer has shot 52.1% from the floor in his career and he has always been a very unselfish player making him a great fit for the Bulls. He will likely be the starting shooting guard for the Bulls this season.

The Chicago Bulls sign J.J. Redick to a offer sheet

Blogged under Big Bulls News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Friday 9 July 2010 at 11:37 pm

The Bulls have signed 26-year old shooting guard J.J. Redick to a 3-year, $19 million dollar offer sheet. The Magic will have 7 days to either match Redick’s deal or let him leave for the Windy City. Redick played in 82 games (9 starts) for the Magic last season and he averaged 22.0 minutes, 9.6 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. He hit 40.5% of his three point shots last season for the Magic. Redick has now played in 222 games (14 starts) in his four years in the NBA and he is averaging 17.2 minutes, 7.0 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. The Magic have said that they would match any offer for Redick but this offer will likely make them think twice about that.

UPDATE: (7/16/2010) – It’s back to the drawing board for the Bulls as the Magic have matched the offer they made.

The Chicago Bulls sign Kyle Korver

Blogged under Big Bulls News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Friday 9 July 2010 at 8:40 pm

The Bulls have signed 29-year old SG/SF Kyle Korver to a 3-year, $15 million dollar deal. Korver played in 52 games (0 starts) for the Jazz last season and he averaged 18.3 minutes, 7.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. His long range shooting is his best asset on the floor as he hit a stunning 53.6% of his three point attempts last season. Korver has now played in 517 games (103 starts) in his 7 years in the NBA and he is averaging 25.1 minutes, 9.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. He has shot 41% from three point range in his NBA career. It will be interesting to see if the Bulls start Korver at shooting guard or if they bring him off the bench. Regardless of what role the Bulls have for Korver I like this signing for them.

The Chicago Bulls have trade Hakim Warrick to the Suns

Blogged under Big Bulls News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Friday 9 July 2010 at 3:10 pm

The Bulls have done a sign and trade deal with the Suns involving 28-year old forward Hakim Warrick. Warrick played in 28 games (0 starts) for the Bulls last season and he averaged 19.0 minutes, 8.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. Warrick signed a 4-year, $18 million dollar deal and then he was shipped to the Suns for a 2nd round pick in 2011. While that’s not much to get for Warrick it certainly is better than nothing.

The Chicago Bulls sign Carlos Boozer

Blogged under Big Bulls News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Wednesday 7 July 2010 at 5:21 pm

The Bulls have signed 29-year old power forward Carlos Boozer to a 5-year, $80 million dollar deal. Boozer played in 78 games (all starts) for the Jazz last season and he averaged 34.3 minutes, 19.5 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He has now played in 510 games (469 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 32.7 minutes, 17.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steal per game. Despite missing out on Chris Bosh the Bulls still landed on their feet in signing Boozer who is just as good as him. Boozer might also be able to convince LeBron James to come to Chicago as they played together in Cleveland early in their careers.

UPDATE: (7/9/2010) – The Bulls missed out on LeBron James who is signing with the Heat. They still are a much better team going into this season with Carlos Boozer in tow.
